Statistics Canada counts 46,986 businesses under NAICS 6244 (child day-care services). This catalogue holds 23,549 licensed sites that a government actually publishes with an address. Those two numbers measure different things, and the difference is not scraping effort — it is what Canadian regulators are permitted to release.

Home-based providers whose addresses are legally withheld
Ontario's home child care agency register is marked restricted because it contains personal information, and Québec publishes only the 161 bureaux coordonnateurs with counts of recognised providers — never the individual homes. Alberta's catalogue is not machine-readable.
Jurisdictions with no public provider register
Prince Edward Island, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut publish childcare subsidy or programme statistics, but no downloadable list of licensed providers.
Unlicensed home-based providers
Statistics Canada found that only 54.8% of home-based childcare providers are licensed or registered; 41.5% have never been licensed and a further 3.7% were licensed in the past. Unlicensed providers are counted as businesses but appear in no licensing register anywhere in Canada.
